Blog action day!

1

On the 15th of october 2008, blog action day takes place. The goal of this event is to raise awareness of one special topic by getting as much bloggers as possible to write about this topic. This year’s topic is “Poverty” and already lots of high-ranked blogs like Techcrunch, Smashing Magazine or Mashable are participating.

In order to take part, there are several possibilities: one could write a blogpost related to the topic and thereby adding to the global discussion. Others can use their day’s earnings to microfinance a loan or give them to charity.

I think that this is a great initiative and over the last weekend, I thought about how highresolutiontextures.com can contribute to blog action day. My day’s earnings are almost 0 and as it is a blog, which focuses on photography, it does not make sense to write an article. Therefore, I came up with the idea that I could create a big texture pack, publish it on that day, and you – the audience – could donate whatever you think it is worth. Afterwards, I will forward all donations to one of the charity organizations mentioned on blogactionday.org.

What do you think of this idea? Or do you maybe have other ideas on how this blog can contribute to this event? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Vacation time is coming

1

This is just to let you know that from today onwards I will take a 10 day vacation and therefore will not be able to post as much new content as usual. I am going hiking in the Austrian Alps, so after this short break I will come back with loads of fresh rock and wood textures. Until then, take care.

Some statistics: the 1st month of highresolutiontextures.com

4

website statistics

Roughly one month ago, I started this website, so it is time for a small re-cap by looking at some statistics:

  • I have written 10 posts so far
  • 53 free high resolution textures are available for download
  • 7248 people have visited this site
  • those visitors were responsible for 18376 pageviews
  • at the moment, 43 people subscribed to the RSS feed

Next to that, the website has been featured on numerous CSS galleries and other websites. The 3 biggest referrers so far have been Smashing magazine, a french site called emob and showcase website fave up.

So what comes next?

I am more than happy with the results of the 1st month and it keeps me motivated to continue what I am doing. This means, there will be loads of new textures, especially of categories I haven’t covered very much, like plants, rust or wood.

One of the things, I would like to improve in the near future, is the interaction with the readership. For that, I would like to encourage you to post more comments and make suggestions, e.g. what sort of textures you are currently missing here or if you would like to have multiple image sizes available for download.

Thank you very much for all the positive feedback so far. Have a nice weekend!
