I just wanted to make a quick announcement that I will not be around for 1,5 weeks and therefore will not be able to post any new content. I bought a house together with my girlfriend and the next 2 weeks we will renovate our new home.

Alright, the moment of truth has arrived. In total, 55 people posted a comment and every one of them was valid and contained one or more improvement suggestions. I fired up a random number generator and asked it to return a random number between 1 and 55 and it came up with number 9.
That means Qbessi is the winner of the book! Congratulations!

I was really blown away by the massive response to this contest. There are so many good suggestions that I decided to start working on a complete re-design of the site. Here is a list with features/items that I will try to add in the future:

Actually, I already took care of the last item by opening a Flickr group called High Resolution Textures, where you guys can post your own textures and/or artwork with one of my textures. So head on over there and start uploading your images! I am already looking forward to you submissions.

Shortly after I started this blog, I was approached by Caleb, who informed me that he was doing a similar thing over at lostandtaken.com. And indeed, he also offers high resolution textures and gives them away for free. We decided to join forces instead of trying to compete against each other and as a consequence he send me over a nice little texture pack, which contains 7 high-res images of rust. After you have enjoyed the pictures below, make sure to visit his blog, which recently got a fresh re-design, in order to grab more of his brilliant photos!
After his first contribution, my friend Martin hooked me up with another great texture pack. This time it is a nice collection of slate textures, which contains 11 high resolution images. Lately, I have been a little obsessed with HDR photography. Especially the work of Trey Ratcliff is breathtaking and he also has a very good tutorial on his blog “Stuck in Customs”, where he covers the ins and outs of the HDR technique. Inspired by all this, I thought that I could try and apply this special technique to my textures. And this is what came out of it – my first HDR beach sand texture. I hope you like it. Please let me know, what you think of this little experiment, so I can decide, whether it is worth to continue in that direction.
